Tips for Recipe Scaling

Cooking Tips

  • Temperature and Time: Cooking temperatures usually stay the same, but cooking times may need adjustment for larger batches.
  • Pan Size: Consider using multiple pans or adjusting pan sizes when scaling up significantly.
  • Seasoning: Start with the scaled amount and adjust to taste, as some seasonings don't scale linearly.
  • Baking: For baking recipes, be extra careful with leavening agents and consider using multiple smaller pans.
  • Liquids: Liquid ingredients scale more predictably than dry ingredients, which can be affected by humidity.

How It Works

Scaling Formula

Scaling Factor = New Servings ÷ Original Servings
New Amount = Original Amount × Scaling Factor

For example, if you have a recipe for 4 people and want to serve 8 people, the scaling factor is 2, so all ingredients are doubled.
